As planned, the My Dinh Stadium (Hanoi) will be the center of the 31st SEA Games with special important events including the opening ceremony, the closing ceremony, and the venue for athletics and men’s football.

At present, the repair and refinement process to improve the quality of My Dinh Stadium is also being gradually carried out with a total cost of about 150 billion VND, including important ones such as upgrading the running track and the grass field according to international standards.

The 31st SEA Games is scheduled to take place from the end of November 2021. After 18 years, Vietnam will once again be the host of Southeast Asia’s top sports games. It was not until September 29 that the organizers of the 31st SEA Games held the first meeting to approve the establishment of subcommittees to serve the organization and finalize a series of related matters such as logo, mascot, songs, logos, funny symbols, and slogans. Currently, the Organizing Committee has selected 3 funny symbols, 18 slogans, and 3 best logos for the final round to make the final decision.

Around August of last year, a contest was launched to name a mascot and come up with a slogan and song for the events. They have gathered a total of 557 entries throughout the country.

The artist who won the hearts of the organizers following all guidelines and criterias is Ngo Xuan Khoi from Hanoi submitting a Saola design entry.

From this competition, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training has suggested making the saola the mascot of the 2021 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.

The deputy director of the Vietnam Sports Administration said they have submitted a proposal to the organizing committee however, the final call will be done by Communist Party’s central propaganda department.

Alongside with the Saola which is a bovine endemic to the Truong Son mountain range in the central region and currently listed as one of the most endangered species, Vietnam is also planning to use the V-shaped design hand as the official logo for the 31st SEA Games.

The Organizers mentioned that the V-shaped design hand symbolizes strength and flexibility of athletes. The logo itself conveys the message of the extraordinary will, the desire to conquer and the resilience in sports.

The logo design can also be perceived as a flying dove which is a symbol of peace, while the letter V stands for both victory and “Vietnam.”

This is the second time that Vietnam is hosting the SEA Games and Para Games after first doing so way back in 2003.

The 31st SEA Games is scheduled to be held from November 21 to December 2, 2021, and the Para Games from December 14 to 21.
