The Republic of Korea (RoK) aims to improve the special entry guidelines for its citizens in preparation for when Vietnam opens more flights to several countries.
Park Byeong-seug, speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea said that the RoK aims to improve the special entry guidelines of its citizens – working hand-in-hand for the COVID-19 prevention and control.
In the course of his talk with Chairwoman of the Vietnamese NA Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in Hanoi, he said that there are several opportunities for Vietnam and Republic of Korea to cooperate and enhance their economic ties and individual exchange which includes the entry of experts and entrepreneurs of both countries.
Park, considered as the first foreign parliamentary leader to visit the country since the outbreak, relayed President Moon Jae-in’s sympathies on the overall losses that Vietnam had during the flooding.
On the other hand, Ngan said that the Vietnamese government is prepared to cooperate with the Speaker and its counterparts to strengthen the connection between the two. She is also grateful for RoK’s aid package that is worth 300,000 USD which was handed over to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control. This helped alleviate the causes of the recent storms and flooding in the central region of Vietnam.
Ngan also highlighted that amidst the compound growth of COVID-19, the mutual economic partnership of the two countries were maintained resulting in stable figures on investment and trade.
The RoK stays the largest investor of Vietnam with approximately 9,000 valid projects amounting to 70.2 billion USD – currently ranks second in the ODA provision for trading and reception of workers from the country. RoK is also considered one of the key sources of travellers to the Southeast Asian country.
She proposed that the two countries soon organize a mutual cooperation on economic dialogue at the Deputy Prime Minister level and inter-governmental committee for economic, scientific and technical collaboration. She also encouraged the facilitation of entry of Vietnam’s agri-products such as dragon fruit, pork and chicken meat, as well as mangoes in RoK’s market.
In acknowledgement to the labour exchange, Park said his country praised Vietnamese workers’ help to its local economic growth and is aiming to receive more workers coming from the country.
On the matter about international and regional forums, Ngan hailed the RoK’s New Southern Policy that emphasizes on fortifying the relations with ASEAN countries including Vietnam.
In regards to the Bien Dong Sea (South China Sea) subject, both countries have shown significant view on maintaining the peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the waters. Both aim to resolve any conflict in accordance with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Park also mentioned the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between Vietnam and RoK in 2022. He proposed elevating the two countries’ mutual connection as Vietnam is not only a crucial partner in RoK’s New Southern Policy but also plays an integral part of the ASEAN.
