The Long Thanh International Airport will be an addition to the 21 airports that Vietnam has.

Long Thanh International Airport project will have an approximate cost of $4.6 billion and it has currently surpassed its first phase.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung approved of the airport project last Wednesday. The airport is designed to become an essential regional international air travel pivot. This massive project is estimated to be complete by 2025.

Its first phase is composed of one 4KM runway with an estimated width of 75 meters following a system of taxiways and ramps. A staggering 373,000 square meter passenger terminal projected to serve at least 25 million people and 1.2 million tons of cargo each year.

The airport will feature crucial facilities such as buildings, airport ramps, both passenger and cargo terminals.

It is currently handled by Airport Corporation of Vietnam which is also the main operator of 21 airports in the country.

The Long Thanh International Airport will also utilize modern equipment and open technologies that can be easily modernized following any changing trends in the international arena.

In the early weeks of October, the government has instructed the Dong Nai province to urgently provide the sites so the building of the airport can start early next year.

It is projected that the airport will have four runways, four passenger terminals and auxiliaries to accommodate an estimated 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo each year following its three phases planned to be accomplished by 2040.

Accordingly, the airport will neutralize the overflow at the largest airport in the country which is somewhere 40KM east of Ho Chi Minh – Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
