A 70-year old couple cross Vietnam by motorbike and has caught the attention of many people. Aside from exploring the country, they have also been to several Southeast Asian countries and the US.
Mr. Mong Phuoc Minh (73 years old) used to be an agricultural engineer while Nguyen Thi Ngoc Cuc (71 years old), his wife, used to be a chemical engineer at Can Tho University. However, 4 years later, they both stopped teaching about producing handicrafts. Later on, they just have to retire due to illnesses caused by old age.
The couple’s children are all grown up and so they have decided to take some rest and explore Vietnam for 40 days using an old motorbike to closely experience the country’s culture, meet people and be with nature.
The couple has been known as the U70. They have been on a healthy diet and have been regularly exercising.
“I do not drink alcohol and only smoke a cigarette with a cup of coffee. On the other hand, my wife does some Tai Chi exercise to maintain fitness according to the U70 adventurer.
Aside from the urge to explore the country, the couple also shares a passion for photography thus by traveling, they can hone their skills in photography.
Mr. Minh had been making bold decisions since 1994 like renting a car to be able to haul his wife and two children from Long Xuyen to Bac Lieu. A year later, his family traveled from Long Xuyen to Phan to witness a total eclipse.
In 2015, the couple stacked their stuff on a Daehan 120cc car which was bought in 2000. Together, they set off for a 40-day trip traversing Vietnam. Prior to this, Mr. Minh took his wife to travel to several Southeast Asian countries like Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
According to Mr Minh, “everywhere I go, I miss my home, I miss my country. Going to understand more about the world, to satisfy my curiosity about the culture of the country, but when I look back, to me, there is only the countryside. Huong, our country is the most beautiful, the most lovely.”
He has created a whole album and named it “Vietnam my hometown”, to save photos along with the S-shaped strip of land that the couple went through. The splendid natural scenery recorded by himself, he shed tears.
Mr. Minh’s wife has been accompanying him for years enduring all the dangers, smog and dust of the road to be with him.
In a nutshell, if the wife leads the way, don’t worry, wherever you go, as long as the husband and wife are always accompanying, the old adventurer concluded.
